What makes a good engineer?
Tuesday, March 25, 2008

The best engineers are problem solvers and innovators. It can save some time if they’ve already solved exactly the same problem, but the latest problem may be different in some way.

Good engineers may find a solution based on similar experiences, or invent a totally new solution. They look at the “traditional” capabilities of a system or component, and see new, untapped potential.

The "grammar" of engineering is most easily learned. A good engineer may need only a few days to learn about a new component or technique, and has the ability to apply fundamental technical knowledge within the context of an overall design.

Learning the "poetry" of engineering requires much more time and effort, but allows good engineers to incorporate new concepts into original and elegant solutions.

Future
Sunday, March 23, 2008

Exactly a year ago I was probably concentrating on my FYP, trying hard to study amino acids in microgels, doing experiments again and again. Completing FYP was my greatest satisfaction - but that was at that time.

Now that i'm already into my 6th month in the corporate world, I come to realised that its no use thinking about the past. I have to start thinking abt my future,

seriously.

working when I am old
Wednesday, March 12, 2008

I dun want to think abt this situation that when i'm old, i go to work just for the sake of working.

because i'm so knowledgeable in what i'm doing everyday is just ABC for me.
i no longer have the amount of drive i had when i was younger.
and because i know with what i have, i cant go far in the company
and i see younger ppl in the company advancing far better than me.

then i will think back and start to regret why didn't i work harder when i was younger.
What was my benchmark of working hard? Did i have one for myself or i was blindly following the rest.

or perhaps then I'll start thinking what is my goal in life.

Secret life...
Monday, March 3, 2008

Pack my bread in my bag and I’m off to work.
Board the shuttle bus, I found myself comfortable.
Sometimes I see unfamiliar faces, but I still smile.
Often, I fell asleep after reading a few lines.
I look forward to seeing some people, who will make my day
I wonder how working life would be like without them.
There are times of frustrations along the day
But with them around, I know all problems can be solved!!
